Google Cloud Print end of life presents opportunities

Google Cloud Print is coming to end soon, leaving many IT administrators and frustrated end-users scrambling for an alternative. But the Google Cloud Print end of life presents opportunities—if you know where to look. Are you currently using Google Cloud Print? Does your organization have an alternative in place? If you answer no to either of these questions, do not worry! At EO Johnson Business Technologies, we have already assisted many customers with this transition, and we can help you too.

What is Google Cloud Print (GCP)?

GCP (Google Cloud Print) was created to simplify printing from Chrome OS. Since it started in 2010, multiple applications have integrated GCP and it has expanded to allow for printing of almost anything from almost anywhere. Though GCP has its flaws, it has a loyal following and many are sad to see it go.

If you have questions about the Google Cloud Print end of life and what it means for you, you're not alone. Our customers have frequently asked…

When is Google Cloud Print End of Life? And why is it being discontinued?

  • December 31, 2020 will be the last day Google Cloud Print is supported. On January 1, 2021 users will no longer be able to print using GCP.
  • With improvements to native Chrome OS printing and enhanced feature sets of comparable solutions, Google choose to end support for GCP.

What are the alternatives to Google Cloud Print?

If you're currently using Google Cloud Print, and are searching for alternatives, you're in luck. There are many options available. Here are some we're thrilled to help our clients integrate into their business.

  • Papercut Mobility Print allows users to print from Chromebooks, iPads, iPhones, Macs, Windows, and Android devices. This is a great alternative to keep printing from multiple operating systems on-premise, while keeping a native print experience for users. (Simply hit CTRL+P!)
  • Uniflow Online offers convenient and secure cloud printing from any device. Not only can users send print jobs securely from anywhere, but they can also print from commonly-used cloud storage repositories like Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive.
  • Native Chrome OS Printing is still a good option for many Chromebook and G-suite customers. This requires G Suite Admins or individual users to add printers, so it still requires some administrative work and management.
  • Coming Soon: Universal Print from Microsoft (now in beta) will be Microsoft’s foray into cloud-based printing. It’s an ambitious project that is now available for testing via public preview for Windows 10 users. While Universal Print shows promise, please keep in mind it’s still in development.
We can help you transition seamlessly from Google Cloud Print

At EO Johnson, we’ve seen it all when it comes to printing. Our Advanced Applications team can help your organization to find the right Google Cloud Print alternative.

Are you still using Google Cloud Print and not sure which alternative will work best? I'm here to help! Contact me directly to learn more about these convenient and secure alternatives. Together, we'll make: Your Business. Better.
